I came to volunteer in the Occupied Palestinian Territories in particular because I believe I can be of more use here; in addition to doing humanitarian work, I can help raise awareness of about the political situation, a situation that needlessly oppresses millions and for which the U.S. bears a lot of responsibility. Since 1967 war, Israel has militarily occupied the West Bank, ostensibly for its own self defense. What cannot be justified as self-defense however is the fact that while it has been occupying the West Bank, Israel has been continually confiscating more and more Palestinian land to create settlements for its civilians. Much of the worst aspects of the occupation, including land confiscation, forced evictions, curfews, Israeli-only roads, and restrictions on movement are necessary solely for the protection of these settlements/colonies, discount adipex. The U.S. forks over the billions in military aid to Israel that make these settlements possible, without the precondition that Israel not use it to colonize what is left of Palestinian land, with disastrous consequences for human rights and a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Hopefully, as more awareness about these issues is raised among Americans and the Israeli left, we will stop allowing our governments to aid in the needless oppression of another people with our money.
