  3. After spending an amazing day in Cairo visiting the many pyramids and tombs, I now realize that my understanding of Jewish slavery and of my ancestors had nothing to do with these miraculous monuments. As our guide explained, these pyramids were built long before the time of Moses and recent excavations and documentations found, reveal that these pyramids were most likely built by paid employees who would move to Cairo (seasonally) for work when the Nile would rise and fall. The slaves from the time of Moses and Exodus were not living under the kings rule to whom these pyramids belonged, but were enslaved under the reign of King Ramesses II, whose tomb is found in the valley of the kings in Luxor. So my previous post, like many, contains misinformation.

However, on a side not, the guide did make clear that if all the money that tourism from just Cairo alone was shared amongst the modern day Egyptians equally, that poverty and homelessness most likely wouldn’t be an issue.
