However, those Jews who think they are entitled to land because they believe it is God’s will make the rest of us confused when we compare them to the Nazis of the 1940’s. When Nelson Mandela was released from oppression he vowed that there should be no retribution and that everyone needs to try to live in harmony with each other. By identifying situations like what you went through we might better understand who the problem really is and how to solve it.

It is unlike me to post on these sorts of things, I prefer to read and contemplate, however I do think that the title of this blog could be potentially offensive. I’m not discouraging your writing. I enjoyed your piece and it got me thinking, and the pictures were beautiful. In terms of being potentially offensive..I’m not thinking so much of the chosen people bit, but of the ‘god damnit’ – which could immediately put people of any faith of the back foot. I’m not religious, I’m just pointing this out. I can see what you are trying to do by dealing with your experience in a lighthearted (and clearly atheist) way, but if your journey is truly “not an attempt to find all the answers but to learn how to ask better questions…(about) collaboration, sustainability and understanding… (In order to contemplate) how our diverse generation of social change will build a true global culture committed to one another?” – well, then it may be worth considering your wording more closely in future. This is a suggestion, not a criticism. Wishing you all the best on your travels.

It’s exactly because of the title of your post that I stopped to read it. Keep calling it as you see it. Honesty is needed more than anything else in this world. You experienced something hateful and if you feel that these individuals would represent themselves as the “chosen people” then so be it. I would also recommend you change the title of this post. “I was spit on by the chosen people” is incredibly offensive.

True, your boyfriend is Jewish, and true, you had a good experience with some Jewish people just after this awful one…. but your racial prejudice, whether intended or not, in this post is incredibly offensive to me…. and I’m not even Jewish.

A man on and his sons spat on you. Their racial or religious background should make no difference whatsoever in your analysis or degree of being offended. The fact that you clearly wrote that their racial/religious background changed your impression of an entire people is incredibly disconcerting to me.

What a striking story…as soon as I saw the jist of the story I was reminded of my time growing up in England where racial tensions are strong, but hardly the type of tensions that exist in Israel.

I was spat on England growing up as a young Pakistani girl…many times usually by white Brits. The tensions between South Asians and white Brits in the low income communities such as the one I grew up in Manchester, were always volatile mostly because the Brits and most Europeans dismiss racism as something that doesn’t exist in their countries, hence, it becomes an underlying issue that erupts every now and then in a ugly manner.

Interesting responses by some comments on your page too…one response to Jamie Felton is…even if she studied history I don’t think that would make the act of spitting on another human being with hate more understandable. There is no excuse to violate someone in that manner.

From what you have written, I believe that your soul is bright enough to get past this ignorant group’s actions. I believe in the existence of, and need for, a Jewish state in Israel. I hope that you can believe that the actions of these few people do not represent the feelings of an entire faith and cultural group full of diverse people. Most Jews in Israel are also striving to believe that the actions of a few do not represent the beliefs of the whole.
